THE mother of murdered school teacher Jane Longhurst was jubilant after her campaign to ban violent internet porn made it into the Queen's speech.
The speech, mapping out the governmment's programme for the next session, includes making it an offence to view images of rape and sexual torture in the new Criminal Justice Bill.

What is indecent? Many broadcasters these days simply do not know. Unfortunately, neither does the Federal Communication Commission, the government commission in charge of regulating broadcast television and radio.
The FCC "is required to regulate material that is patently offensive... when measured against contemporary community standards in the broadcast medium." With this vague description of the FCC's responsibilities, it is no wonder that broadcasters are often left scratching their heads.

Kuala Lumpur - The editor of a Malaysian tabloid was suspended on Tuesday after being criticised by the government for publishing several pages filled with sex-related stories and pictures.
"The editor of the Malay Mail and Weekend Mail was served a suspension starting on Tuesday as part of the appropriate steps of an ongoing inquiry into this matter," the Malay Mail newspaper said.

A group representing sado-masochists who have consensual violent sex expressed disappointment at yesterday's moves to ban violent porn.
The Spanner Trust - named after the infamous 1990 "Spanner" trial of a number of gay men who engaging in beatings, genital abrasions and lacerations - said the move risked criminalising innocent people.

A mother whose daughter died at the hands of a man obsessed with violent internet porn has won her fight for a ban on possessing such images.
The government has announced plans to make the possession of violent porn punishable by three years in jail.
It follows a campaign by Berkshire woman Liz Longhurst whose daughter Jane, a Brighton schoolteacher, was killed by Graham Coutts.
